This is something we’re often asked by our customers, the truth is it is difficult to answer as it depends on the amount of belongings you are looking to move and how well organised you are for the move when we arrive at your property.
One thing that you need to be aware of is you should be out your property by Midday (12pm), in order to ensure there is ample time for monies to be transferred and you to receive the keys for your new home.
Moving home is very much not a ‘one size fits all’ experience. That is why we have a bespoke quotation system, we always prefer to come out and assess your property, so we can see first-hand what needs moved.
While out at your property we will assess several things including:
- Access to the property
- The number of vans required to complete the move
- If there are any large / specialist items that need to be moved.
This is to ensure that we don’t hold up the new buyers of your home, and we can advise you on how many boxes you may need to get ready to move, among other things.

In short, this isn’t a problem. We never really know when keys will be exchanged or when we’ll have access to your new property.
The advice that solicitors have always given us is that the property should be cleared by midday (12pm), so we always work to this goal.
Beyond this, it comes down to the chain of buyers, so on average we usually get keys by 2pm. Don’t worry if you haven’t recieved your keys by then, we’ll wait for your keys and ensure you get moved into your new home.
We don’t require you to wrap any of your furniture ahead of the move unless you wish to do so.
When we turn up to your home on the day of the move, we will have a selection of protective materials for a variety of items including sofa covers, mattress bags, non-abrasive blankets.
If you want to wrap some items, we would recommend mirrors and pictures be wrapped in bubble wrap, but it is not essential.
We strongly recommend you empty any drawers and pieces of furniture.
There are a couple of reasons that we say this:
- Although the items may fit out of your house as they are, they may not fit in to the new property as easily and could hinder the unloading process.
- Often when we are loading the van, we require to put things upside down to get the van packed as efficiently as possible, so when drawers or furniture aren’t empty, things can become lost or damaged.
There are very few things we can’t move however there are some items such as:
- Gas canisters
- Light garden machinery that is petrol operated (unless completely emptied of petrol)
- Paint as it can cause a large amount of damage should it spill.
If you’re concerned about an item, then contact us and we can advise you on if it’s something we can help you with.
Of course you can repurpose boxes when moving, however there are a few things to consider before deciding on this.
- Are the boxes old and have you had them for a while? If so they may have been somewhere damp which could affect their structural integrity.
- Consider box sizes as you don’t want boxes which are too big as they could become too heavy to move.
Our price does not include boxes to pack up belongings ahead of the move.
We do however have a range of high-quality, strong boxes and packing materials (such as bubble wrap, tape, packing paper and wardrobe boxes) which are competitively priced and available to purchase directly from us.
Let us know if you’d like to purchase these for your move and we can include this in your quote. Or alternatively you can contact us to order.
This can depend on your circumstances, but ideally we would suggest you get in touch with us as early as possible.
We would recommend getting in touch with us as soon as you have an offer on your property, as this will give you plenty time to prepare, and minimise the amount of stress you experience in the run up to your move.
